Harriet Tubman was born around 1822 and her real name was Araminta Ross. She was born a slave and she was the middle child. Her owner sold her about 5 times. As she grew older she began wearing a bandana, that meant she classified herself as an adult. She also changed her name to Harriet. After this she got married to free black man named John Tubman. As time passed she wanted to be free more and more like him. She went to a woman, while John was asleep, to help her on her journey. This woman was part of the Underground Railroad. Harriet became free in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She became an abolitionist, someone who is against slavery, and began freeing slaves. She freed over 300 slaves with a head injury from when she was little that still effected her with seizures, narcoleptic episodes, and severe headaches. She then married Nelson Davis. She sadly died on March 10, 1913 in Auburn, New York.
